UAE Private Sector 3-Day Holiday Announced for Prophet’s (PBUH) Birthday

UAE private sector 3-day holiday has been officially announced on the occasion of the Prophet’s (PBUH) birthday. The Ministry of Human Resources confirmed that Friday, September 5, 2025, will be a paid holiday for private sector employees across the country.

With this declaration, most private sector employees will enjoy a three-day weekend. As the holiday will align with the official weekend of Saturday and Sunday. UAE private sector 3-day holiday is expected to give families. And communities more time to observe the special religious occasion together.

The Prophet’s (PBUH) birthday is celebrated worldwide and falls on 12 Rabi Al Awwal in the Hijri calendar. This year, the date matches September 5, following the non-sighting of the crescent moon on August 23. The UAE’s astronomy centre confirmed that the month of Safar would last 30 days, marking August 25 as the start of Rabi Al Awwal.

Interestingly, Saudi Arabia and the UAE will mark the Prophet’s (PBUH) birthday on different days, as the Kingdom sighted the crescent a day earlier. Such variations occur because the Islamic calendar follows lunar sightings. And each month begins only when the new moon is visible.

The UAE moon sighting committee plays a key role in confirming Islamic months. On the 29th of each month, members meet to observe the crescent. And announce the start of the next Hijri month.

This announcement means both government and private sector employees in the UAE can look forward to a long weekend in early September. And offering them an extended opportunity to celebrate this important religious event.
