The UAE AI ambitions are setting the stage for the country’s next wave of economic growth. Over the past three decades, the UAE has built one of the most diversified economies in the MENA region. By 2024, non-oil sectors made up 75.5% of GDP, with strong contributions from trade, manufacturing, finance, construction, and real estate. This solid base has turned the UAE into a top destination for foreign investment, ranking second worldwide for FDI greenfield projects in 2023.
National strategy for AI
Now the UAE is moving into a new era driven by advanced technology. The UAE AI ambitions are guided by the National Strategy for AI 2031. And which focuses on transport, healthcare, space, and energy. The country also aims to raise the digital economy’s share of GDP from 10% in 2022 to 20% within a decade.
Partnerships with tech leaders
Global partnerships are fueling this journey. Microsoft invested \$1.5 billion in Abu Dhabi’s G42 in 2024, while the UAE-US AI Campus launched “Stargate UAE”, the largest AI data centre outside the US. Backed by OpenAI, Oracle, NVIDIA, and others, the hub will power AI model development and training across sectors such as healthcare, finance, energy, and logistics.
Investing in AI talent
To secure long-term gains, the UAE is investing in skills. Dubai’s “One Million Prompters” programme and the federal “One Million AI Talents in the UAE”. Initiative are preparing a future-ready workforce. By 2030, AI is expected to add 14% to the national GDP, with the local market projected to reach nearly \$50 billion.
