Tennis Star Kasatkina Ends Season, Says She’s at ‘Breaking Point’

Daria Kasatkina ends season

Daria Kasatkina ends season early after admitting she has reached her “breaking point.” The world number 19 shared that the constant travel and tight schedule have become “too much, mentally and emotionally.” Kasatkina said she needs time to recover and focus on her well-being.

The 28-year-old player, who switched nationality from Russia to Australia in March, revealed that the transition added to her emotional stress. She criticised Russia’s LGBTQ+ laws and the war in Ukraine, which made her move away from her home country. Kasatkina also said that not seeing her father for four years has been very difficult.

“I’ve been far from fine for a long time,” she wrote, admitting that her recent results show how much she has struggled. Her season ended with a 19-21 record and no titles. “It’s time I listened to myself for a change,” she added.

Daria Kasatkina ends season as other top players also take breaks. Elina Svitolina and Paula Badosa recently stopped playing because of mental and physical fatigue. Many players, including Iga Swiatek and Novak Djokovic, have spoken about the intense tennis calendar and the need for change.

The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) requires top players to play in several big tournaments every year. This demanding schedule often leaves little time for rest. Kasatkina’s decision highlights growing concerns about player burnout in professional tennis.
