Sharjah’s global cultural influence continues to accelerate, with the emirate being named Guest of Honour at the Warsaw International Book Fair 2026, one of Europe’s most respected literary and publishing events. The announcement, made during the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair, reflects the emirate’s growing status as a world leader in promoting knowledge, creativity, and cultural exchange.

The honour reinforces Sharjah’s reputation as a cultural ambassador for the Arab world, showcasing Emirati and Arab literary voices on the international stage. The signing ceremony took place between the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) and the History and Culture Foundation, the organiser of the Warsaw fair, in the presence of senior officials from both sides.

Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority, highlighted the significance of this achievement, noting that Sharjah’s global cultural journey is built on dialogue, diversity, and a long-term commitment to elevating Arab creativity. Her leadership has been instrumental in positioning Sharjah International Book Fair as a global brand, expanding its reach across continents and building strong cultural partnerships.

In her remarks, Sheikha Bodour said Sharjah’s presence in Warsaw would introduce new audiences to the richness of Emirati literature while deepening connections with Central and Eastern Europe. She emphasised that books remain one of the strongest tools for bridging cultures and building mutual understanding.

SBA CEO Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri added that the recognition reflects the visionary guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, whose lifelong commitment to knowledge and literature has shaped Sharjah’s global identity.

Sharjah’s selection follows its celebrated participations at major book fairs in Madrid, Paris, Bologna, Seoul, and São Paulo. In Warsaw, the emirate will present a comprehensive cultural programme, featuring writers, poets, publishers, translators, and artists from the UAE and wider Arab world.

With each global spotlight, Sharjah strengthens its role as a cultural bridge — connecting nations through the shared language of books.
