Sharjah Ruler receives delegation of the founding members of the Arabic Language Academy (ALA) in Beirut, marking a new step in strengthening cooperation to serve the Arabic language. His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, met the delegation on January 4, 2026, at the Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre in University City.
During the meeting, Sharjah Ruler receives delegation led by Dr Emile Badi Yaqub and His Excellency Dr Rashid Darbas. His Highness warmly welcomed the guests and congratulated them on establishing the Arabic Language Academy in Beirut. He praised the start of its work in partnership with Sharjah.
His Highness highlighted Lebanon’s long and rich role in Arabic culture and literature. He spoke about the impact of Lebanese scholars, writers, and artists across the Arab world. He confirmed Sharjah’s full support for the Beirut academy so it can succeed in protecting the Arabic language, preserving its history, and spreading its use among new generations.
The Ruler of Sharjah also stressed the importance of strong communication between Arabic language academies. He said cooperation helps in research, documentation, publishing, and sharing knowledge. Such unity supports Arabic as a global language of science and culture.
The discussion also covered the role of the Sharjah Arabic Language Academy. His Highness explained its mission to connect with academies across the Arab world, Europe, and Africa. Joint projects, events, and publications play a key role in this effort.
The Lebanese delegation thanked His Highness for his continuous support. They praised Sharjah’s major Arabic language projects, especially the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language. The meeting ended with the presentation of a commemorative shield and group photos.
