Sharjah literary initiative launches a new project called ‘From Page to Screen’ to turn Arabic books into TV shows and films. The initiative is a partnership between the Sharjah Literary Agency (SLA) and Cedars Art Production, sponsored by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA). The agreement was signed at the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2025).
The project aims to expand Arabic literature through visual media. SLA will manage the legal and professional aspects. They will select five literary works in the first phase and handle author agreements, rights documentation, and training programs. Cedars Art Production will focus on creative work, including scriptwriting, directing, and technical support. SBA will provide coordination, media support, and nominate award-winning books for adaptation.
Tamer Saeed, Director of SLA, said the initiative will help Arab literature reach wider audiences while keeping the original work authentic. He emphasized that managing rights and nurturing talent is key to creating high-quality adaptations. Khoula Al Mujaini of SBA highlighted the project’s role in strengthening the creative economy in the region. She said it reinforces Sharjah’s cultural leadership in publishing, cinema, and visual arts.
Lama Sabbah, Producer at Cedars Art Production, said the partnership shows Arab creativity at its best. She added that the project will bring the depth of Arabic literature to audiences worldwide through TV and film.
The Sharjah literary initiative launches this new program as a bridge between writers and producers. It promises to create high-quality adaptations and showcase Arab culture on global platforms. With this project, Sharjah continues to strengthen its role as a hub for literature, art, and creative innovation.
