Mirdif Roads Diverted for Dubai Metro Blue Line

Mirdif Roads Diverted for Dubai Metro Blue Line

Dubai, July 15, 2025 — Motorists in Mirdif are advised to follow new traffic diversions as construction work for the highly anticipated Dubai Metro Blue Line gets underway. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the changes, urging drivers to plan ahead to avoid delays.

Traffic diversions in Mirdif for Dubai Metro Blue Line works

The key roundabout connecting 5th Street and 8th Street near City Centre Mirdif has been closed to traffic. Vehicles approaching from 5th Street are being redirected to 8th Street toward City Centre Mirdif, while traffic on 8th Street is rerouted to 5th Street heading toward Algeria Street.

A newly constructed access road will allow shoppers to continue reaching City Centre Mirdif’s parking lots, and a U‑turn has been installed near Ghoroob Square to ease movement for residents and commuters exiting City Centre Mirdif Street.

The RTA has advised motorists to plan trips in advance, leave early, and avoid peak hours whenever possible.

What is the contract for Dubai Metro Blue Line construction?

The temporary diversions are part of preparations for the Dubai Metro’s 30‑kilometre Blue Line, the third major addition to the city’s metro network after the Red and Green Lines. The project, valued at over AED 18 billion, will include 14 stations, with around 15.5 kilometres running underground.

Approved under the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, the Blue Line is designed to boost sustainable transportation and urban connectivity. It is scheduled to open on September 9, 2029, linking to the existing Red Line at Centrepoint Station and the Green Line at Creek Interchange Station.

The Blue Line will connect nine densely populated districts, including Mirdif, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, Academic City, Dubai Creek Harbour, Dubai Festival City, International City, and Al Warqa. The network is expected to serve over one million residents by 2040.

Once operational, the Blue Line is projected to carry 200,000 passengers daily in 2030, rising to 320,000 by 2040. It will handle 46,000 passengers per hour in each direction, helping reduce congestion and travel time across the city.

RTA’s Advice to Motorists

The RTA has emphasized that the diversions, though temporary, are essential to ensuring the timely completion of the project. Drivers are urged to:

  • Stay updated with official traffic advisories.

  • Use alternate routes where possible.

  • Travel outside of peak traffic hours.

  • Follow all road signs and instructions from traffic wardens.

How much did the Dubai Metro Blue Line cost?

Despite the short-term inconvenience, the Blue Line is seen as a major step toward creating a more connected and sustainable city. It supports Dubai’s vision of becoming a “20-minute city,” where 80% of daily needs are accessible through efficient public transport.

While Mirdif residents may face temporary delays, the long-term benefits promise a faster, greener, and more convenient travel experience for everyone.
