Cybersecurity experts have uncovered a significant data breach involving 9.4 GB of data from 20 crore users of X (formerly Twitter).
According to researchers at CyberPress, a cybersecurity news and analysis organization, this leak ranks among the largest in recent memory and raises serious concerns about user privacy and security.
The compromised data includes users’ email addresses, names, and X account details, making them vulnerable to phishing attacks, identity theft, and social engineering schemes.
Cybercriminals can exploit this information to further infect emails and associated systems. The leak was initially reported on a prominent hacking forum, where a user named ‘Mashupa’ created a new account on July 7, 2024, to release the extensive database.
The leaked data is divided into 10 files, each containing 1 GB of data, which can be downloaded by anyone. The concerned agency has reached out to X regarding the breach, but no response has been received so far.
This incident underscores the critical need for robust cybersecurity measures and vigilant user practices to safeguard personal information in the digital age.
