A historic meeting that once symbolised global respect, courage, and influence has found a powerful continuation more than five decades later, not through the legends themselves, but through their daughters.
In 1973, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, met boxing icon Muhammad Ali in Chicago at the Nation of Islam headquarters. The encounter between the two towering figures reflected shared values of dignity, conviction, and leadership that extended far beyond sport or politics.

More than 50 years later, that legacy resurfaced in Sharjah, where their daughters came together in a moment that quietly bridged generations.
A meeting shaped by legacy and leadership
Laila Ali, daughter of Muhammad Ali, is herself a celebrated global figure. A former undefeated world boxing champion, Laila Ali went on to become a respected author, entrepreneur, health advocate, and television personality. Beyond her sporting achievements, she has carried forward her father’s commitment to empowerment, discipline, and purpose, particularly advocating for women’s strength and resilience.
On the other side stands Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority, founder of Kalimat Group, and one of the most influential voices in global publishing and cultural leadership. Known for championing knowledge, education, creative industries, and cultural diplomacy, Sheikha Bodour has played a central role in positioning Sharjah as a global hub for literature and intellectual exchange.
When history continues, not repeats

Their meeting was not staged for symbolism, nor framed by nostalgia. Instead, it stood as a reminder that legacy is not confined to the past. It travels through time, shaped by values, responsibility, and vision, re-emerging in new forms and new contexts.
What once connected a ruler and a world champion now connects two women who represent strength through intellect, influence through purpose, and leadership through continuity.
Beyond names and moments
This was not merely a convergence of famous lineages. It was a reflection of how meaningful connections outlive moments, places, and even lifetimes. The meeting underscored how leadership rooted in integrity and service continues to echo across generations.
Some meetings do not end with a handshake or a photograph.
They evolve.
They endure.
They are inherited.
And in Sharjah, history once again proved that true legacy is not remembered, it is lived.
