Dubai’s slow pitch: India’s spin attack eyes Champions Trophy

Champions Trophy

India may have found the winning formula at Dubai International Stadium for Champions Trophy. Consequently, captain Rohit Sharma added spinner Varun Chakravarthy. He replaced young pacer Harshit Rana to boost the bowling attack. Moreover, India now uses a four-spinner strategy. Additionally, the team plays all matches in Dubai.

Historically, West Indies dominated cricket in the 1970s. Conversely, India now relies on spin-based tactics. On Sunday, India scored 249 for nine in 50 overs. Consequently, the spin quartet restricted New Zealand to 205 in 45.5 overs. Thus, India won by 44 runs.

Next, India will face Australia in the first semifinal. Meanwhile, New Zealand travels to Lahore for the second semifinal. Furthermore, Rohit Sharma stressed the need to finish strong. He said, “Our quality bowlers gave us confidence.”

If India qualifies, the final will occur in Dubai on March 9. Otherwise, Lahore will host the final. Thus, India appears ready to challenge its rivals.

In the New Zealand match, Chakravarthy led with a five-wicket haul. Moreover, Axar, Kuldeep, and Jadeja pressured the opposition. Furthermore, they controlled the middle overs. Additionally, Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya stabilized the innings. Finally, New Zealand’s skipper noted the challenging pitch.

India hopes the spin attack delivers in upcoming matches. Indeed, they target a Champions Trophy title soon. Therefore, India ends its 12-year wait for the trophy.
