Dubai RTA Reports Over 104,000 Lost Items Left in Taxis in 2025

Passengers in Dubai left behind more than 104,000 personal items in taxis during 2025, according to data released by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The figures highlight the scale of lost property cases handled across the emirate last year.

The RTA’s Lost and Found Team within the Customer Happiness Department processed 104,162 reports of forgotten belongings, managing everything from initial reporting to verifying trip details and coordinating the return of items to owners.

Meera Al Shaikh, Director of Customer Happiness at RTA, said the initiative is part of the authority’s commitment to providing seamless and trustworthy transport services and enhancing overall customer experience.

Among the recovered items were more than AED 2 million in cash, roughly 35,000 electronic devices such as mobile phones, laptops and tablets, nearly 3,000 passports and official documents, along with jewellery and other valuables.

To make reporting easy, the RTA accepts lost item notifications through its call centre — which handled 56% of cases — as well as through smart apps and a text-based virtual agent, Mahboub. Services are offered in multiple languages, including Arabic, English, Hindi, Filipino, French, Chinese and Russian.

The authority said smart technologies and efficient coordination with taxi drivers helped ensure quick and secure reunions with owners, often within two hours of reporting.
