Abhishek Bachchan on Kaalidhar Laapata and OTT Shift

Ahead of the Zee5 release of Kaalidhar Laapata, Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan and producer Monisha Advani opened up about the film’s deeper message and their views on how digital platforms are transforming Indian cinema.

Speaking in an online interview, Abhishek Bachchan admitted to missing the grandeur of larger-than-life Bollywood films but expressed excitement for projects like Kaalidhar Laapata, which explore meaningful, everyday stories. He also shared his lighthearted obsession with a popular viral Dubai chocolate.

The film, set to stream on July 4, takes inspiration from the Tamil movie KD (Karuppu Durai) but reimagines the protagonist as a man in his late 40s, offering a fresh emotional angle. According to Abhishek, the story’s simplicity and strong moral core made it instantly appealing.

The Kaalidhar Laapata narrative resonates with audiences dealing with stress, burnout, and the search for meaning in modern life. Abhishek praised young co-star Daivik Baghela, highlighting their on-screen chemistry as central to the film’s heart.

Producer Monisha Advani noted how OTT platforms are giving films like Kaalidhar Laapata a broader audience, from Dubai to Australia, beyond traditional big-screen distribution. She stressed that storytelling should come before any decision on theatrical or digital release, praising OTT as a powerful tool for filmmakers to reach viewers worldwide.

Looking ahead, Abhishek hinted at returning to classic Bollywood masala films full of dance and fun, but for now, he is proud to champion intimate, human stories through OTT.
