The young Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter said that batting with Virat Kohli during his debut IPL season helped him understand how to build an innings in T20 cricket. Padikkal shared that watching Kohli closely gave him confidence and improved his game.
Devdutt Padikkal made his IPL debut for RCB in 2020. He said he was well prepared because of strong performances in domestic cricket. However, he added that learning from Virat Kohli made a huge difference in his growth as a batter. Virat Kohli batting help gave him clarity about handling pressure and constructing innings properly.
Padikkal also spoke about his time with Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants. He said batting in different positions was not easy at a young age. Still, those experiences helped him become a more complete player. He learned how to adapt to match situations and score under pressure.
The left-handed batter admitted that IPL 2024 was a difficult season for him. He said many things were going on in his mind during that phase. After the season ended, he understood what areas needed improvement in his batting and mindset.
Padikkal credited RCB mentor Dinesh Karthik and coach Andy Flower for helping him improve his white-ball game. He said they worked on his batting technique and helped him play with more attacking intent.
Virat Kohli batting help and RCB’s strong batting lineup have also given Padikkal more freedom to play aggressive cricket. He believes the team’s batting depth allows top-order batters to attack without fear.
