The UAE Council for Fatwa has announced the Zakat Al Fitr amount and expiation rates for missed fasts during Ramadan 2025.
Zakat Al Fitr Amount
The council has set Zakat Al Fitr at Dh25 per person in cash or 2.5kg of rice. This contribution must be given before Ramadan ends and will support at least two underprivileged individuals.
Every financially able Muslim—men, women, young, and old—must fulfill this duty. It can be given either in cash or food.
Fidya and Kaffara for Missed Fasts
The council has also announced the expiation (kaffara) and compensation (fidya) amounts for missed fasts. The following rules apply:
For intentionally breaking a fast:
– Dh15 per person, paid to 60 poor individuals, totaling Dh900.
– Alternatively, 3.25kg of wheat can be donated per person.
For those unable to fast (due to illness or old age):
– Dh15 per person for each missed fasting day.
– Alternatively, 3.25kg of wheat can be given per person.
If someone dies with missed fasts:
– Their family must either pay Dh15 per missed fast or donate 3.25kg of wheat per day.
For delaying missed fasts without a valid excuse:
– Dh15 per person for each delayed fast.
– Alternatively, 3.25kg of wheat can be donated per person.
For breaking an oath while fasting:
– Dh15 per person, paid to 10 poor individuals, totaling Dh150.
– Alternatively, 3.25kg of wheat can be donated per person.
Muslims should complete these obligations on time to ensure their charity reaches those in need before Ramadan ends.
