The UAE has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative to train one billion people worldwide in fire safety and emergency preparedness. Titled ‘1 Billion Readiness,’ this ambitious program seeks to collaborate with 34 countries and 16 leading firefighting organizations. These efforts aim to deliver virtual training courses on a global scale.
Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management, highlighted the program’s significance. He described it as one of the largest international efforts to enhance fire protection and safety.
“Running from 2025 to 2027, the initiative will focus on educating one billion individuals globally about fire prevention strategies,” he stated. Additionally, a cornerstone of this program is the Hope Convoys project. It will provide critical support to developing nations by delivering essential equipment and setting up fire stations. These efforts aim to bolster emergency response capabilities. Furthermore, the program seeks to foster stronger international partnerships in fire safety.
Advanced Digital Platforms for fire safety
Lieutenant General Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi, General Director of Dubai Civil Defence Directorate, noted the initiative’s reliance on advanced digital platforms. These platforms will be accessible in multiple languages to ensure a global reach.
On the local front, the initiative will include comprehensive awareness campaigns. These campaigns are designed to engage all sectors of society. For example, efforts will target individuals, government entities, private organizations, and educational institutions. Consequently, this approach will maximize participation and impact.
A top Dubai Civil Defence official disclosed that participants stand a chance to win exciting prizes. These prizes include up to Dh1 million and a Nissan Patrol.
“The primary objective is to spread awareness, particularly in light of recent catastrophic events,” the official explained. For instance, the Los Angeles fire devastated entire communities and displaced thousands of residents. “It is crucial that people are equipped with the knowledge to respond effectively in fire emergencies,” he added.
Participants who successfully complete the training will receive certified electronic certificates. These certificates will be issued jointly by the Global Wildfire Monitoring Centre and the Dubai Civil Defence Readiness Program. They will validate the participants’ preparedness and expertise.
