Step-by-Step guide to replacing your Dubai driving licence

If you’re a Dubai resident and have lost or damaged your driving licence, replacing it is now a hassle-free process. Here’s a simple guide to help you through it.

Eligibility

Dubai residents with a lost or damaged driving licence are eligible to apply for a replacement.

Requirements

To apply, you only need to present your Emirates ID.

Service Fees

  • Under 21 years old: Dh100
  • 21 years old or older: Dh300
  • Additional fees: Dh20 or more for knowledge and innovation fees

Licence Validity

The replacement licence will be valid for the remaining period of your original permit.

How to Apply for a Replacement

Online Application via RTA Website

  1. Go to the RTA website and enter your Emirates ID, driver’s licence details, or traffic file number.
  2. Click on “Apply for Replacing a Lost/Damaged Driving License”.
  3. Complete the ‘Identity Verification’ tab with your Emirates ID, driving licence, number plate, or traffic file number.
  4. Verify your identity through the OTP sent to your registered phone number.
  5. Pay the required fees and fines using your debit or credit card.

Application via RTA App

  1. Log in with your RTA account or UAE Pass account.
  2. Tap on the “Renew a driving licence” tab.
  3. Select “Driver Licensing” and then “Replace a driving licence”.
  4. Enter your licence number, issue date, traffic code number, date of birth, and whether your licence was lost or damaged.
  5. Pay the required fees and fines using your debit or credit card.

Using Mahboub Chatbot on RTA Website

  1. Click the Mahboub Chat icon at the bottom of the RTA website.
  2. Enter your name, mobile number, and email address.
  3. Type “lost my driving licence” or “my licence is damaged” in the chat box and click “Apply Now”.
  4. Provide your traffic file number, licence issuance date, and birth year.
  5. Select the reason for replacement (Lost or Damaged).
  6. Pay the required fees and fines using your debit or credit card.

Self-Service Machines

  1. Enter your driving licence number, issuing authority, birth year, and reason for reprinting (lost or damaged).
  2. Verify the driving licence details displayed.
  3. Pay the required fees and fines using your debit or credit card.

Receiving Your New Licence

Once your application is approved, you will receive a temporary driving licence by email. You can collect your new licence from self-service machines or customer happiness centres in Deira or Al Barsha. If you have an Apple device, you can receive an electronic licence via the Apple Wallet through the RTA Dubai App.
