The renowned captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is the center of attention as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season gets underway.
The IPL season has seen a number of fours and sixes from Dhoni, who will turn 43 in July, leading fans to speculate if this is his last season.
Michael Hussey, the batting coach for CSK, has stated that he hopes Dhoni can continue to play for the next two years.
In a “Around the Wicket” interview with ESPN, Hussey stated, “We hope he will continue to play.” What a great hitter he is. He arrives to camp early, puts in a lot of practice, and has been strong the entire season.”
Even though he bats lower in the order and doesn’t often get to play with balls, Dhoni has scored 136 runs in this IPL season. Hussey thinks they’ve managed his workload effectively, though, given that he underwent knee surgery following the previous season and has been managing it since the start of this one.
Regarding Dhoni’s decision to step down as captain, Hussey said, “MS said he wouldn’t attend the captains’ meeting before the tournament. After that, we all wondered what was going on. Then he said Rituraj would be the captain from now on. There was a shock at first, but we knew Rituraj was the right choice.”
Hussey thinks Dhoni made a wise choice in transferring the captaincy to Rituraj Gaikwad, despite the fact that it was unexpected. “Rituraj is an excellent leader and player. Thus far, he’s been doing admirably,” he remarked.
Regarding Dhoni’s future, Hussey expressed optimism, saying, “I hope he plays for another two years.” Well, they’ll make a decision on this. I don’t believe a choice will be made this quickly.”
