Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan Gets Delhi HC Notice in AI Personality Rights Dispute

Bollywood icon Salman Khan has been issued a legal notice by the Delhi High Court in a high-profile personality rights case, marking a significant development at the crossroads of celebrity privacy and artificial intelligence law. The notice was served on Tuesday in response to a legal challenge from a China-based AI voice-generation platform seeking to overturn an earlier court order that protected the star’s personal identity rights.

The case originated from Salman Khan’s own petition last year, in which he sought legal safeguards against the unauthorised commercial use of his name, voice, image and likeness in AI-generated content and digital platforms. In December 2025, the Delhi High Court granted interim relief, restraining the use of his voice and identity without consent and directing social media intermediaries to take action to prevent further misuse.

However, the AI company behind the current petition has challenged that interim order, arguing that the restrictions adversely affect its core business — creating AI voice models. The High Court Bench has now issued a notice to Salman Khan and given him four weeks to file his response in the matter. The next hearing is scheduled for 27 February 2026.

Legal experts say this case highlights a broader global debate about how personality rights should be protected in the age of generative AI, deepfakes and automated voice-synthesis technologies. Protecting a public figure’s identity in digital media has become a complex challenge as tools capable of replicating human traits grow increasingly sophisticated.

Salman Khan’s legal team has maintained that unauthorised use of his persona can mislead the public and harm his reputation and commercial interests — a claim that has found legal recognition so far through the interim protections granted by the court.

As the legal battle unfolds, the case is expected to set an important precedent in India on the intersection of celebrity rights, privacy law and emerging AI technologies — potentially influencing how artificial intelligence platforms use real individuals’ identities in the future.
