The United Arab Emirates has ordered the arrest of 25 individuals of various nationalities for publishing misleading content online that allegedly harmed national defence measures and promoted acts of military aggression against the state.

According to the UAE’s Attorney-General Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, the defendants have been referred for an expedited trial after authorities uncovered coordinated digital activity that spread fabricated information and content designed to incite public anxiety and undermine stability.

The arrests follow extensive monitoring of digital platforms by UAE authorities, aimed at combating the spread of manipulated media, artificial intelligence-generated videos and misinformation related to ongoing regional tensions.

Investigations revealed that the suspects operated in three separate groups, each responsible for different forms of online activity.

The first group allegedly circulated authentic video clips showing missile interceptions and aerial defence activity within UAE airspace. Authorities say the clips were edited with commentary and sound effects suggesting active attacks, potentially exposing defence capabilities while creating public panic.

The second group was accused of publishing AI-generated or manipulated visual content, including fabricated scenes of explosions and missile strikes. Some videos reportedly reused footage from incidents outside the UAE while falsely claiming they occurred inside the country, often adding national flags and dates to increase credibility.

The third group allegedly posted content praising a hostile state and its political and military leadership, portraying its regional military actions as achievements and amplifying propaganda narratives considered harmful to UAE national interests.

The Public Prosecution confirmed that investigations have begun and the defendants have been placed under preventive detention pending further inquiries.

Attorney-General Al Shamsi said exploiting digital platforms to spread misleading information that threatens public security or reveals sensitive defence capabilities constitutes a serious criminal offense under UAE law.

He emphasized that the UAE would take firm legal action against anyone found attempting to manipulate public opinion or spread false narratives during a period of heightened security concerns.

Authorities said all individuals proven to be involved will be referred to the judiciary and face the penalties prescribed by law for actions deemed to undermine national security and public stability.
