The much-awaited 8th Dibba Al Hisn Theatre Festival officially launched on Friday, bringing together theatre lovers and artists from across the Arab world. The festival will run until May 27 at the Dibba Al-Hisn Cultural Centre, promising a vibrant lineup of performances and cultural events.
A Grand Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony was held in the presence of His Excellency Abdullah Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture in the Government of Sharjah. The event set the tone for an exciting festival filled with creativity, collaboration, and celebration of the performing arts.
International Participation
This year, the festival proudly hosts theatre groups and artists from five countries: the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Egypt, Syria, and Morocco. According to Aisha Al Hosani, General Coordinator of the festival, dozens of talented authors, performers, directors, and critics are participating, making this edition a true international gathering.
Daily Performances and Workshops
The festival features a rich schedule of daily theatrical performances at the Dibba Al-Hisn Cultural Centre Theatre. In addition to the shows, there are special workshops focused on school theatre, designed to nurture young talent and inspire the next generation of actors and directors. Practical discussions about the plays will also engage both artists and audiences, deepening their understanding and appreciation of theatre.
A Cultural Feast
As part of the festival, the 20th Sharjah Forum for Arab Theatre is also taking place, themed “Theatre and Life.” This forum gathers prominent Arab theatre artists, critics, and scholars to explore the impact of theatre on society and everyday life, adding a rich cultural dimension to the event.
