Dr. Adnan Hamad Al Hammadi, a Federal National Council (FNC) member, has urged the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure to take immediate action.
Citing a statistical study, he highlighted the severe impact of daily commutes. “Driving 15 kilometers during working hours yearly equals 460 hours,” he stated.
As a result, this translates to 57 to 60 working days based on an eight-hour work schedule.
His concerns were raised last Tuesday during an FNC session. He was responding to a statement by Minister Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei.
Moreover, Dr. Al Hammadi stressed that traffic congestion affects more than just time. It significantly disrupts commuters’ social and family lives.
“Many federal employees leave after Fajr prayer and return past 8 PM,” he noted. Consequently, they have little personal time left.
In addition, he pointed out that some employees stay in Dubai for hours after work. Others rent temporary accommodations to avoid delays.
Traffic congestion between Dubai and Sharjah has been steadily worsening due to rapid urbanization, population growth, and increasing vehicle numbers. Daily bottlenecks on key routes like Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road cause long delays. Furthermore, accidents and road maintenance often exacerbate congestion. Despite metro and bus services, public transport options remain limited. Many residents feel stuck in endless traffic, affecting work productivity and mental well-being. Without immediate improvements in road infrastructure.
