Sharjah innovators secure NASA challenge global recognition

The NASA Space Apps Challenge 2024 has officially announced its ten global winners. Among them, Sharjah-based team INNOVISIONARIES secured the prestigious “Most Inspirational Team” award. This remarkable achievement highlights the team’s dedication and innovative approach.

Global Participation and Intense Competition 

This year’s competition witnessed 93,000 participants from 163 countries, submitting 10,000 innovative projects across 15 teams. With such fierce competition, the Sharjah team’s victory stands out as an extraordinary accomplishment. The event was organized in partnership with Dubai University and technical partner SPACE.TAYAR.

Sharjah Team’s Innovative Contribution 

The INNOVISIONARIES team was the only UAE team to receive an award. Their groundbreaking project aims to educate high school students about sustainable development goals. By integrating scientific lessons on weather, geology, and soil health, the project could significantly enhance environmental awareness in education.

Award Ceremony at NASA Goddard Space Flight Centre 

To honor the winners, a prestigious award ceremony will take place on June 4 at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Centre in Greenbelt, USA. This event will celebrate innovation and inspire future participants.

Dr. Issa Al Bastaki, President of Dubai University, emphasized that such competitions play a crucial role in nurturing creativity and innovation. He further highlighted the UAE’s strong commitment to advancing scientific research and technological progress, aligning with its national innovation strategy.

Advancing Space Technology in the UAE 

Engineer Tareq Salah Al-Din, CEO of GIE, pointed out that the NASA challenge fosters innovation across all age groups. He also mentioned that this year’s competition attracted 202 teams from various UAE regions, including Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman.

With this recognition, Sharjah continues to position itself as a leading hub for scientific and technological advancements, paving the way for future innovators.
