Discover Emirati Culture at 100-Year-Old Sharjah Resort

Sharjah

UAE residents enjoy a unique travel experience in Khorfakkan Sharjah. Furthermore, a resort revives a century-old site. It stands in historic Najd Al Meqsar village. Additionally, seven restored houses welcome guests.

Authentic Emirati Design

Guests experience traditional Kareen Houses. Moreover, these houses feature triangular roofs made of palm fronds. They use clay and stones. Consequently, they honor local culture. Furthermore, terraces cascade with sea views. However, modern amenities like elevators and pools are absent.

Exploring Local Landmarks

Visitors can hike a scenic trail. Then, they reach the Al Meqsar Fortress. This fortress served as a watchtower for 300 years. Also, another trail leads to Al Rafisah Dam. Meanwhile, guests enjoy Wishi restaurant. It offers delicious meals and panoramic views.

Rich Historical Roots

Najd Al Meqsar sits at the head of Wadi Shie. Additionally, it lies near the Rafisah Dam. Archaeological carvings date back to the Iron Age. Moreover, local tribes settled nearby. They used an “al falaj” irrigation system. However, seasonal floods forced residents to move. Therefore, they built mountain homes around the fortress. Out of 13 houses, seven remain. Consequently, the resort uses these houses.

A Vision for Preservation

In 2019, restoration efforts began in Khorfakkan Sharjah. Then, Dr Sheikh Sultan directed the project. Moreover, teams restored historical sites. In addition, government agencies joined the initiative. Najd Al Meqsar, Khor Fakkan Fort, and Al Adwani Tower were restored. Finally, the project now offers a unique hospitality experience.
