International pop sensation Dua Lipa mesmerized Mumbai with a surprise performance on Saturday night. During her gig, she stunned fans by grooving to a fan-made mashup of her hit song Levitating and Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic track Woh Ladki Jo from the film Baadshah. The unexpected fusion quickly became a sensation online.
Netizens flooded social media with clips of the Levitating x Woh Ladki Jo mashup, sharing their excitement and admiration for Dua’s act. However, not everyone was thrilled. Jay Bhattacharya, son of acclaimed singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, voiced his frustration over the lack of recognition for his father’s contribution to the Bollywood classic.
Jay Bhattacharyain favor of Dua Lipa
Taking to Instagram, Jay criticized the media and fans for sidelining his father’s role in the creation of Woh Ladki Jo. He expressed disappointment at how the focus remained on Shah Rukh Khan while ignoring the artists behind the song.
“The problem is that no one talks about it. What happened to Woh Ladki Jo – Abhijeet? Unfortunately, we live in a country where no news outlet or Instagram page mentions the voice and the artists behind this song. Why is it always about actors?” he wrote.
Jay continued, “I’m sure when @dualipa heard this song, she must have appreciated the music and the vocals, not just the visuals. The singer is @abhijeetbhattacharya, with music by @anumalikmusic. Yet, the media in this country never gives singers their due credit. This is why I hesitate to pursue singing in Bollywood.”
He clarified his admiration for Shah Rukh Khan, stating, “This isn’t about Shah Rukh Khan; I’m his biggest fan. This is about our audience and media failing to support Indian singers like the West does.”
Dua Lipa Expresses Gratitude to Mumbai
After the electrifying performance, Dua Lipa took to Instagram to thank her Mumbai fans. “Thank you, Mumbai!!!!! Off to our next and FINAL stop of the Asia run… SEOUL!!!!!” she wrote, sharing pictures from her time in the city.
This marks Dua’s third visit to India, following her 2019 performance and a recent vacation in Rajasthan earlier this year. Her Mumbai concert further solidified her connection with Indian fans, leaving them eagerly awaiting her next visit.
