Sharjah has expanded a major road in the Muweilah Commercial Area, improving traffic flow and accessibility for residents and commuters. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Thursday that the street has been upgraded to two lanes in both directions, covering a total length of 2.5 kilometers.
In addition to the expansion, the authority has introduced 330 new parking spaces. This change helps accommodate the growing number of vehicles in the area. Furthermore, three pedestrian crossings, each controlled by traffic lights, have been constructed. These upgrades enhance pedestrian safety and ensure smoother traffic movement.
The project is part of Sharjah’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and address increasing traffic demands. With more residential and commercial developments emerging in Muweilah, the expansion aims to reduce congestion. As a result, it provides a more efficient commuting experience for motorists.
Residents and business owners have welcomed the improvements. They highlight the positive impact on daily travel and accessibility to local establishments. Moreover, the addition of new parking spaces has eased parking challenges. At the same time, the pedestrian crossings have enhanced road safety for those walking in the area.
Two weeks ago, RTA Sharjah also introduced a new traffic diversion on Al Tawoon Street. This route has significantly alleviated congestion for residents in Al Tawoon, Al Majaz, Al Khan, and Al Mamzar. During peak hours, the diversion has reduced travel time by up to 25 minutes. Consequently, commuting has become more convenient for thousands of drivers.
These upgrades align with Sharjah’s broader transportation development plan. The plan focuses on enhancing road networks, optimizing traffic flow, and improving pedestrian safety. The authority continues to implement strategic projects. These projects aim to accommodate the emirate’s rapid urban growth while ensuring a seamless transportation system for residents and visitors alike.
With ongoing infrastructure advancements, Sharjah remains committed to providing a well-connected and efficient road network. These improvements make daily commutes more manageable and contribute to overall urban development.
