His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, officially launched the 14th Sharjah Light Festival. Organised by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, the festival runs from February 5 to 16 across 12 locations. It highlights the emirate’s cultural heritage and architectural beauty through spectacular light shows.
Distinguished Welcome for His Highness
Upon arrival, His Highness was warmly welcomed by Sheikh Khalid bin Essam Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation. Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Sheikh Saud bin Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, and Sheikh Salem bin Mohammed bin Salem Al Qasimi were also present. Several senior officials, government heads, artists, and media professionals attended the event.
Opening Ceremony of Sharjah Light Festival
The ceremony began with the UAE national anthem, followed by a visual presentation showcasing the festival’s journey since 2011. Vibrant displays and artistic creations captivated the audience, underscoring the festival’s growing popularity.
His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed attended the opening show, “The Story of an Exceptional Vision.” The show highlighted the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. It depicted Sharjah’s transformation into a hub of culture, science, and thought through stunning artistic displays.
Key Address by Khalid Jassim Al Midfa
Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, thanked His Highness for gracing the event. He emphasised Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi’s visionary leadership, which prioritises development and people’s well-being.
Al Midfa highlighted the festival’s role in boosting tourism and aligning with the UAE’s vision for sustainable development. He reaffirmed the goal of positioning the UAE as a leading global tourism destination.
Notable Performances at the Sharjah Light Festival
This year’s festival offers breathtaking performances, including “The Journey of the Light of Knowledge and Art” at Sharjah Mosque. “The Story of the Valley” at Al Dhaid Fort explores themes of ancient life and storytelling. Additionally, “Light of the East” brings Khorfakkan’s captivating story to life, while “Dream of Nekisos” dazzles audiences with stunning visuals.
