Syria: Damascus Airport to reopen on January 7

Syria

Damascus International Airport of Syria will reopen to international flights on January 7, confirmed Ashad Al Saliby, Chief of the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority. This announcement marks a significant milestone in Syria’s aviation recovery after years of conflict.

Al Saliby shared that both Damascus and Aleppo airports are undergoing rehabilitation to handle global flights. These efforts involve local and international partners. “We assure airlines, both Arab and international, that we are committed to restoring the full capacity of these airports,” he added.

Qatar Airways to Resume Flights to Damascus

In a major step, Qatar Airways will resume flights to Damascus after nearly 13 years. Starting January 9, the airline will operate three weekly flights to the Syrian capital. This move demonstrates growing confidence in Syria’s aviation infrastructure and its commitment to safety.

Syria achieved a key milestone in December with the launch of its first domestic flight since the ousting of President Bashar al-Assad. On December 18, a flight from Damascus to Aleppo symbolized the country’s gradual return to aviation normalcy.

The Strategic Importance of Airport Rehabilitation

Reopening Damascus airport is crucial for Syria’s post-conflict recovery. It plays an essential role in reconnecting the country to the global community. Moreover, it contributes to Syria’s economic revival.

The rehabilitation of major airports will boost tourism, trade, and international relations. This marks a turning point in Syria’s development.

With international flights resuming and domestic routes expanding, Syria’s aviation sector is on the rise. The reopening of Damascus airport not only restores a vital transport hub but also symbolizes the nation’s resilience. Through partnerships and renewed efforts, Syria is steadily reclaiming its position on the global aviation map.
