UAE welcomes record number of visitors in first half of 2024

UAE Record Number of Visitors

UAE welcomed 9.31 million international overnight visitors from January to June 2024, marking a 9% increase from the 8.55 million tourists in the same period last year, according to data from the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET).

Following a remarkable 2023, with 17.15 million international visitors, Dubai continues to maintain strong tourism momentum. This growth aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, aiming to solidify the city’s status as a global business and leisure destination under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, emphasized Dubai’s strategic vision in driving tourism growth, urging stakeholders to enhance partnerships and explore new opportunities. He highlighted that Dubai’s tourism sector sets global standards, contributing significantly to the city’s GDP through robust public-private collaborations.

In the first half of 2024, Dubai achieved notable growth in key markets, supported by DET’s targeted campaigns. Visitors from GCC and MENA regions constituted 26% of overall arrivals, Western Europe 20%, South Asia 17%, and CIS and Eastern Europe 15%. The city also saw increased visits from North-East and South-East Asia, the Americas, Africa, and Australasia.

Dubai’s hospitality sector continues to thrive, with new high-profile hotel openings, including The Lana by Dorchester Collection, SIRO One Za’abeel, and Hilton Dubai Creek Hotel & Residences. The city’s hotels maintained an average occupancy rate of 78.7%, slightly higher than last year, with increased room nights and revenue per available room (RevPAR).

Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM), noted that Dubai’s visionary leadership and innovative infrastructure have consistently elevated the city’s standards. He emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in showcasing Dubai as a premier destination.

Dubai’s culinary scene also gained recognition, with the third edition of the MICHELIN Guide featuring 106 restaurants and accolades from the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. The city’s attractions, such as Real Madrid World at Dubai Parks and Resorts, further cement its status as a global hub for tourism and entertainment.
