Renowned drama writer, director, and poet Khalilur Rehman Qamar has shared the harrowing details of his recent abduction.
In his first public appearance since the incident, he revealed that he initially suspected the involvement of government agencies. However, his abductors mentioned actors Nauman Ejaz and Saba Qamar, claiming he had spoken against them.
The playwright clarified that while he admires their acting skills, he does not like them personally. He believes the kidnappers used the actors’ names to mislead him, as neither Ejaz nor Saba Qamar had any role in the abduction.
During a podcast interview, Qamar recounted the events leading up to the incident. A woman, who expressed interest in making a play, invited him to her home.
Despite his usual routine, Qamar decided to visit her at 4:40 AM after performing his Fajr prayer. Upon his arrival, the woman was alone, and shortly after, several men entered the house, claiming to deliver a parcel. These men then subjected Qamar to torture.
Qamar disclosed that the trauma left him in shock for several days, during which he relied on sleeping pills. He also addressed criticisms he faced for wearing sunglasses during a press conference following the abduction, explaining that he was advised to avoid sunlight due to a skin condition.
The incident has deeply affected Qamar’s family, with his wife expressing a desire to leave Pakistan. Despite the ordeal, Qamar remains steadfast in his love for his homeland and has no plans to leave.
It should be noted that a few days ago, Khalilur Rahman was kidnapped and subjected to alleged torture on the pretext of making a drama, and cash and goods were also robbed from him. The police have since arrested the main accused, a woman named Amina Urooj, who was involved in the abduction.
