Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that advertisements and promotional campaigns can now be displayed on school buses.
The initiative aims to provide an additional revenue stream for school bus operators by utilizing advertising spaces inside and outside school buses.
However, RTA has emphasized that these advertisements must adhere to stringent standards and requirements to ensure they promote products and offers appropriately, safeguarding the rights and protection of schoolchildren.
According to Adel Shakri, Director of the Planning and Business Development Department at the Public Transport Corporation, RTA, advertisements must be suitable for students and encourage correct principles, morals, and behaviors according to UAE laws. He outlined the advertising standards and requirements, including:
- Obtaining approval for the content from Dubai Municipality
- Obtaining an advertising permit through RTA’s website
- Positioning onboard advertising screens behind the driver to prevent distraction
- Ensuring advertisements do not obstruct doors or emergency exits
- Ensuring exterior advertisements do not cover the ‘School Bus’ signage or obstruct the driver’s view, particularly on the rear glass
By allowing advertisements on school buses, RTA aims to support the business community while promoting responsible advertising that prioritizes the well-being and safety of schoolchildren. This initiative is expected to benefit both school transport operators and the advertising industry, while maintaining the highest standards of safety and responsibility.
