Swedish AI firm unveils learning robot dog, Luna

Swedish AI startup IntuiCell has introduced Luna, a robot dog with a functional digital nervous system. Unlike traditional AI models, Luna can learn and adapt like humans and animals, marking a major breakthrough in robotics.

A new era of AI: learning like a real dog

Luna is among the first physical agentic AI systems. Instead of just performing programmed tasks, it can make decisions and take actions toward specific goals. This ability allows it to learn like a real dog, making it truly unique.

To develop Luna’s mobility, IntuiCell will hire a dog trainer rather than relying on AI models or massive datasets. The robot dog will learn to walk by mimicking how neurons interact and process information, just like real animals do.

A revolutionary approach to AI learning

CEO and co-founder Viktor Luthman emphasized the uniqueness of IntuiCell’s technology.

“What we have built is the first software that allows any machine to learn like humans and animals do,” he said.

Unlike conventional AI, Luna requires no pre-training, offline simulations, or massive data centers. Instead, its built-in nervous system enables real-time learning and continuous adaptation.

Expanding possibilities for humanoid

This technology could significantly enhance humanoid and autonomous robots, allowing them to function in unpredictable environments.

“The next step is exploring humanoid robotics in unpredictable environments like space, deep-sea missions, or disaster response,” Luthman said.

For instance, intelligent machines could be sent to Mars to build future habitats for humans. Since pre-training would be impossible, these robots would need to solve problems in real time.

Future potential and funding

Right now, Luna can stand and interact with its surroundings, constantly improving through experience. Over time, it is expected to develop advanced perception and problem-solving skills.

Founded in 2020 as a spin-out from Lund University, IntuiCell is backed by Navigare Ventures in Sweden, SNÖ Ventures in Norway, and the European Union.

With Luna leading the way, IntuiCell’s innovations could transform robotics, from intelligent pets to autonomous explorers.
