The 16th edition of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) kicked off today at Expo Centre Sharjah, promising children an exciting journey filled with books, imagination, and creativity. Running until May 4, the festival offers a vibrant mix of cultural, artistic, and educational activities designed to engage and inspire young minds.
This year’s edition features more than 1,024 engaging events. These include over 600 workshops, 85 live performances, 40 cultural sessions, and 35 discussion panels. In total, 133 guests from 70 countries are taking part, contributing to the festival’s international flair. Additionally, 122 publishing houses from 22 countries have joined the event, turning the venue into a global hub for cultural and creative exchange.
Sherlock Holmes Exhibition
Among the biggest attractions is the Sherlock Holmes Exhibition, which instantly draws young mystery lovers into a world of puzzles and imagination. The exhibit recreates iconic scenes from Sherlock’s world and encourages children to solve clues and crack mysteries just like the legendary detective. Through hands-on exploration, kids build critical thinking skills while enjoying an exciting adventure.
Workshops at SCRF are tailored to encourage creativity in every child. At the Cooking Corner, the aroma of freshly prepared dishes fills the air. Children learn how to make dough, cook North African quesadillas, and even prepare their own ice cream. Moreover, they get to invent their own popcorn flavors using healthy toppings like cinnamon, dried fruits, and nuts. These interactive experiences allow kids to express themselves while picking up useful life skills.
The festival also dazzles with the Sharjah Exhibition of Children’s Book Illustration. As children wander through the venue, they encounter giant book installations and award-winning artworks from talented illustrators around the world. This captivating visual atmosphere stimulates their imagination and deepens their love for storytelling.
Nine-year-old visitor Wamda expressed her joy, saying, “It feels like I’m inside my imagination here. I’m super excited about all the activities I can be part of!” Her excitement mirrors the atmosphere throughout the venue, where every corner brings new opportunities for discovery.
In conclusion, the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival 2025 is more than an event—it’s a celebration of childhood, creativity, and community. Through books, performances, hands-on activities, and global perspectives, it offers children a chance to explore their interests and connect with peers. Whether they’re solving mysteries, baking treats, or admiring colorful illustrations, every child finds something magical at SCRF.
