US airplane engine catches fire, passengers evacuated

plane fire

A Delta Airlines plane caught fire on Monday morning at Orlando International Airport. The aircraft was preparing for takeoff to Atlanta.

The Airbus A330 had just pushed back from the gate when flames appeared in one of its engines. The incident happened around 11:15 a.m. EDT. Delta confirmed that flight crews acted quickly and followed emergency procedures.

As a result, all 282 passengers and 12 crew members evacuated the aircraft using emergency slides. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Meanwhile, videos shared on social media captured the dramatic scene. One clip showed flames coming from the engine. Another showed passengers sliding down and moving away from the aircraft.

Shortly after the fire broke out, the airport’s emergency team responded. According to airport officials, the fire occurred in the ramp area. Their rescue and firefighting team reached the site promptly and controlled the situation.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it will investigate the engine fire. This incident adds to recent concerns about aviation safety in the U.S. Just weeks ago, a similar case happened in Denver. An American Airlines engine caught fire while taxiing. That fire forced passengers to exit the aircraft onto the wing.

In a statement, Delta said its maintenance team will inspect the aircraft thoroughly. Additionally, the airline arranged alternate flights to help passengers reach their destinations later that day.

So far, Airbus has not released a comment.
