‘Adolescence’ Sequel in the Works

Adolescence

Netflix’s critically acclaimed British crime drama Adolescence may soon return with a sequel. Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B Entertainment, is in early discussions with Netflix and director Philip Barantini to potentially develop a second season of the hit miniseries.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Plan B co-presidents Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner confirmed that conversations are underway with Barantini about expanding the story. The original season was co-created by renowned actor Stephen Graham and award-winning writer Jack Thorne.

“We’re talking about the next version of the story with Philip,” said Gardner. “We want to evolve it without losing what made it powerful in the first place.”

Kleiner added that the team hopes Graham and Thorne will return for the continuation. “Their voices shaped the show in a unique way, and we’d love to see them back,” he said.

Gardner also praised Barantini’s signature one-take filming style, noting, “It’s not a gimmick—it aligns with the emotional core of the story.”

Reflecting on early creative discussions, Kleiner shared, “Stephen and Jack talked about how easy it is to look away—from the school, the police, the family. But if we remove that distance, if you can’t look away, the story embeds itself differently. That’s what made it thrilling.”

Adolescence dominates Netflix

Meanwhile, Adolescence continues to dominate Netflix’s charts. According to Deadline, the series climbed from ninth to fourth place on Netflix’s Most Popular English TV list in just one week. Between March 31 and April 6, it attracted 17.8 million views—evidence that viewers remain captivated by its gripping narrative.

Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham created Adolescence, and Philip Barantini directed it. The series follows the harrowing story of 13-year-old Jamie Miller, portrayed by Owen Cooper, who faces accusations of murdering a female classmate. Barantini shot each of the four episodes in a single, uninterrupted take to heighten the tension and realism.

Stephen Graham also stars in the series as Eddie Miller, Jamie’s father, delivering a powerful performance that anchors the emotional weight of the story.

Since its premiere on March 13, Adolescence has earned widespread acclaim for its intense storytelling, innovative direction, and standout performances.
