Residents in the UAE can prepare for an extended public holiday as Eid Al Fitr 2025 will begin on Sunday, March 30.
On Saturday night, the UAE Moon-sighting committee gathered to observe the crescent moon. This group includes astronomers, court officials, and Islamic scholars. After careful observation, the crescent moon was sighted, confirming the start of Shawwal, the 10th Islamic calendar month.
Earlier, some uncertainty remained about the exact holiday dates. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation explained the possible scenarios. If Ramadan lasts 29 days, the Eid break will run from Sunday, March 30, to Tuesday, April 1. However, if Ramadan extends to 30 days, the public holiday will continue until Wednesday, April 2.
For employees who do not work on weekends, this means either a three-day or two-day holiday, depending on the final Ramadan duration.
Meanwhile, most public sector workers will also enjoy an extended break. The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources confirmed that government employees will receive paid leave for the first three days of Shawwal.
If Ramadan lasts 29 days, these paid leave days will be from Sunday, March 30, to Tuesday, April 1. On the other hand, if Ramadan lasts 30 days, the holiday will extend from Monday, March 31, to Wednesday, April 2. This will give workers an additional day off.
What is Eid Al Fitr?
Eid Al Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal. It is a time of joy and celebration. Families gather for morning prayers, share meals, and exchange gifts. Many also give to charity as part of the festivities.
Additionally, the public holiday allows residents to travel abroad or take short regional trips. This makes Eid Al Fitr one of the most awaited celebrations in the UAE.
