Deepika Padukone believes Indian films have often deserved Oscar recognition. However, she feels they have been repeatedly overlooked. The Bollywood star shared her thoughts in a recent Instagram video. She was getting ready for a Louis Vuitton show in Paris.
In the video, she recalled attending the Academy Awards in 2023. She was present when RRR won Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu.
“India has been robbed of the Oscars many times,” Deepika Padukone said. “Many deserving movies, I feel, have been snubbed. Whether it’s films or talent, they often go unnoticed.”
She also shared how emotional she felt at the moment. “I remember sitting in the audience when RRR was announced as the winner,” she added. “I got emotional. Outside of being an Indian, I had nothing to do with that film. Yet, it felt deeply personal.”
Moving on to this year’s Oscars, she highlighted one win that made her especially happy. She expressed joy over Adrien Brody’s Best Actor win for The Brutalist.
Meanwhile, the video featured clips of critically acclaimed Indian films. All We Imagine As Light, Laapataa Ladies, Tumbbad, and The Lunchbox appeared on screen. These films, despite worldwide praise, did not receive Oscar nominations.
Padukone attended the Louis Vuitton show at the Cour Carré du Louvre. Her presence reaffirmed her strong ties with the luxury brand. Notably, she holds a prestigious achievement in the fashion world. She is the first Indian to become a global ambassador for both Louis Vuitton and Cartier.
