Sharjah Charity International (SCI) has reached a significant milestone in its mission to provide clean water to communities facing shortages. In 2024, the organization constructed 8,860 wells and built six desalination plants at a total cost of AED 34.2 million. These projects focused on water-scarce regions in Africa and Asia, where millions struggle with access to safe water.

Mohammed Rashid bin Bayat, Vice Chairman of SCI, emphasized the urgent need for clean water. “Access to clean water is no longer a luxury; it is a basic human right,” he stated. He highlighted that water scarcity affects not just individuals but entire communities, making long-term solutions essential.

The impact of these projects goes beyond providing drinking water. Improved access to clean water helps reduce waterborne diseases, enhance food security, and support economic stability. Many affected regions rely on agriculture and livestock, making water access crucial for survival. Without reliable water sources, farming communities struggle to sustain their livelihoods.

To ensure lasting benefits, Sharjah Charity has also built six desalination plants. These plants provide safe water for both drinking and farming, benefiting hundreds of thousands of people. Unlike wells, desalination plants offer a continuous supply of water, especially in regions where groundwater is limited or unsafe.

Bin Bayat stressed that SCI’s efforts are part of a broader vision to create self-sustaining communities. Access to water allows children to attend school, reduces the burden on women who collect water, and supports local businesses.

With these projects, SCI continues to expand its humanitarian impact, ensuring clean water reaches those who need it most. The organization remains committed to finding sustainable solutions that transform lives and promote long-term development.
