Harry Brook faces IPL Ban after skipping season

IPL

England cricket star Harry Brook faces an IPL ban after missing consecutive seasons. Meanwhile, the talented batsman opted out of the Indian Premier League for the second year in a row, a decision that now risks a two-year ban under IPL regulations.

Brook, who signed with Delhi Capitals in December 2023, skipped last year’s tournament after his grandmother’s passing. Moreover, today the 26-year-old announced that he will again sit out this season to focus on preparing for England’s upcoming series. Consequently, the IPL may impose a two-year ban on him for withdrawing before the tournament began.

Furthermore, Brook stated on social media, “I made the very difficult decision to withdraw from the upcoming IPL. I know not everyone will understand, but I must do what I believe is right. Playing for my country remains my priority, and I apologise unreservedly to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters.” In addition, he served as vice-captain of the England squad that exited early from the Champions Trophy after losing all three group matches. Following captain Jos Buttler’s resignation, Brook now stands as a key candidate to lead the team.

Additionally, England will play a one-off Test against Zimbabwe in May, and later, they will host West Indies in three ODIs and three T20 matches. Also, Brook added, “Guided by trusted people, I carefully considered this decision. This is a crucial time for English cricket, and I want to fully commit to preparing for the upcoming series. I need time to recharge after the busiest period of my career.”

Finally, the IPL season runs from March 22 to May 25, and as a result, Brook’s absence has sparked significant discussion among fans and cricket analysts alike.
