Apple launches budget friendly iPhone 16e

iPhone 16e

Apple has launched the iPhone 16e, a new low-cost model. It aims to capture a larger share of the mid-range smartphone market. This launch also targets competition from brands like Samsung and Huawei.

The iPhone 16e moves away from Apple’s traditional SE branding for its budget line. Priced at $599 globally and Dh2,599 in the UAE, it offers advanced features. These features are typically found in premium models. This strategic move comes as major tech firms integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their devices.

iPhone 16e: Price and Availability

Pre-orders for the iPhone 16e will open on February 21 at 5:00 PM local time. It will be available in 59 countries, including the UAE, US, China, and India. Shipments are scheduled to begin on February 28.

The iPhone 16e is approximately $200 cheaper than the standard iPhone 16 model. This model was introduced in September last year. With its competitive pricing and advanced capabilities, Apple aims to attract budget-conscious users.

Key Features of the iPhone 16e

“The A18 chip powers the iPhone 16e, using the same processor found in higher-end models.”

It supports Apple Intelligence, a suite of AI-driven features. These features include seamless integration with ChatGPT.

In-House C1 Cellular Modem: This model debuts Apple’s first in-house C1 modem. This marks a shift from previous reliance on Qualcomm for cellular connectivity.

Advanced Camera System: It features a 48-megapixel sensor with dual lenses. One lens offers a two-times zoom integrated into the primary camera. This enhances photography quality.

Larger Display and FaceID: Unlike previous SE models, the iPhone 16e has a 6.1-inch display. This is the same size as the entry-level iPhone 16. It also eliminates the physical home button. Instead, it adopts FaceID for secure authentication.

USB Type-C Charging Port: The iPhone 16e is the last iPhone model to transition to USB Type-C charging. This change ensures compliance with EU regulations. It also aligns with global standards.

Apple’s Strategy in the Budget Smartphone Market

Apple’s lower-end phones are positioned to compete in markets where Android devices dominate. According to Counterpoint Research, the this phone SE’s contribution to total revenue has declined. It dropped from 10% in 2016 to just 1% in 2024. Analysts believe this phone could reverse this trend. It offers a cost-effective alternative without cannibalizing sales of higher-end models.

“Apple can leverage the iPhone 16e in regions where Android holds a strong market share. This allows them to maintain margins on premium devices,” said Gil Luria, an analyst at DA Davidson.

Future Outlook

Apple recently projected strong sales growth. This growth is driven by the introduction of AI features across its product lineup. It also strengthens its position in the competitive smartphone market.

With pre-orders beginning soon, the it is set to make waves in the UAE and beyond. It offers a compelling blend of performance, innovation, and affordability.
