UAE: Three arrested with Dh27.5 million in counterfeit currency

UAE

Authorities in the UAE have arrested three Arab nationals for possessing and intending to circulate counterfeit foreign currency. The seized counterfeit money amounted to $7.5 million (Dh27.5 million), according to a police report.

The arrests were made after a tip-off revealed that a businessman in Ras Al Khaimah UAE, along with two accomplices, planned to distribute the counterfeit currency. Moreover, the operation was conducted by the General Command of Ras Al Khaimah Police in collaboration with the General Department of Criminal Security and the Criminal Investigation Department at the Ministry of Interior.

As a result, a specialised task force was immediately formed to investigate the tip-off. Through undercover operations, the suspects were arrested with samples of the counterfeit currency. Furthermore, searches of their residences uncovered additional counterfeit money.

Legal proceedings against the suspects are now underway, and the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.

Ras Al Khaimah Police have emphasized that counterfeiting currency—whether for possession or distribution—is a severe crime. This crime poses a threat to the national economy and financial stability in local and international markets.

Additionally, the police have urged the public to remain vigilant against financial fraud and counterfeiting schemes. They encouraged individuals to promptly report any suspicious activities related to counterfeit currency to the authorities
