The first Sharjah Literature Festival has concluded, making a significant impact on Sharjah’s vibrant cultural and literary scene. With the theme “Emirati Tales Inspire the Future”, the five-day festival celebrated Emirati literature, heritage, and creativity.

Over the course of the event, Sharjah became a dynamic hub for writers, intellectuals, publishers, and literature enthusiasts. They gathered to honor the achievements of Emirati authors and explore the deep cultural roots of the nation.

Organized for Cultural Excellence

The festival was organized by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) and the Emirates Publishers Association. It was held under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. Moreover, Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of SBA and Honorary President of the Emirates Publishers Association, provided leadership and vision.

This inaugural edition aimed to reinforce the UAE’s role as a global literary hub while showcasing Emirati writers’ remarkable contributions. The event provided an engaging platform for cultural dialogue, enriching both visitors and participants.

Exciting Sessions and Workshops

The festival featured 29 distinguished guests and 12 moderators, including leading figures from literature, art, and media. The square opposite University City Hall transformed into a vibrant space for 20 thought-provoking panel discussions and sessions. These explored Emirati literary creativity, its historical significance, and its evolving future.

In addition, attendees enjoyed 9 interactive workshops tailored for both children and adults. These workshops covered themes such as space exploration, storytelling, Arabic calligraphy, and scented candle-making. As a result, visitors gained hands-on experiences that blended learning with creativity.

The event included a book exhibition, featuring new releases from 41 Emirati publishers, showcasing the diversity of local literature. Furthermore, attendees were entertained by 25 live performances, including a piano recital by Iman Al Hashimi, the first Emirati female composer.

Moreover, the festival offered unique shopping opportunities at five participating stores and diverse culinary delights from 10 restaurants. These additions created a well-rounded experience for visitors.
