The Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA) successfully concluded its exhibition, “Mleiha: An Arabian Kingdom on the Silk Road,” in Japan. Held at Miho Museum from July 6 to December 15, 2024, it attracted over 100,000 visitors.
The event was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. Notably, it became one of the year’s most prominent cultural showcases, emphasizing Sharjah’s rich heritage on the global stage.
Rare Artifacts Highlight Mleiha’s Historical Significance
The exhibition featured over 160 rare artifacts, including 40 national treasures and 49 culturally significant pieces. Additionally, newly discovered artifacts were displayed for the first time. These items explored Mleiha’s vibrant history, focusing on trade, religious beliefs, art, and social systems.
Eisa Yousif, Director-General of the SAA, emphasized the exhibition’s importance. “This success demonstrates Sharjah’s cultural strength and the UAE’s growing role as a global cultural hub,” he stated.
Moreover, he added, “Welcoming over 100,000 visitors reflects the strong connections we’ve built with diverse audiences and cultures worldwide.”
The exhibition also raied awareness about Mleiha’s pivotal role in cultural exchange. Furthermore, it highlighted how Mleiha acted as a crossroads for trade between East and West.
Sharjah’s Leadership in Cultural Dialogue
This exhibition reaffirmed Sharjah’s leadership in fostering intercultural dialogue. It also showcased Mleiha’s strategic importance on the Silk Road during a historically significant era.
Meanwhile, the event strengthened cultural ties between the UAE and Japan, reflecting their shared commitment to preserving heritage.
Aligning with Sharjah’s Vision
The exhibition forms part of Sharjah’s broader strategy to promote cultural and archaeological tourism. In addition, it aligns with the emirate’s vision of encouraging regional and international cultural exchange.
