Her Excellency Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, President of American University of Sharjah (AUS), attended the Fall 2024 Commencement Ceremony. The event celebrated the achievements of 454 graduating students. It highlighted the accomplishments of a diverse cohort representing 39 nationalities.

In her inspiring address, Sheikha Bodour congratulated the graduates. She said, “Congratulations to all American University of Sharjah Fall 2024 graduates! Your resilience and ambition inspire us all. As you set out on new paths, take the values of AUS with you and make your mark on the world.”
She also reflected on a special moment during the ceremony. She stated, “It was a privilege to honor Yusuf Islam with an honorary doctorate. His dedication to peace and the arts aligns deeply with our values.”
Recognizing Achievements
The ceremony celebrated 381 bachelor’s degree recipients and 73 master’s and PhD graduates. Sheikha Bodour personally conferred degrees. She recognized the hard work and dedication of each student.
A highlight of the event was the awarding of an honorary doctorate to Yusuf Islam. The legendary singer-songwriter and humanitarian is formerly known as Cat Stevens. His music, renowned for its themes of peace and social justice, has inspired millions. This honor acknowledged his significant contributions to the arts, society, and his unwavering commitment to charitable causes.
Chancellor Dr. Tod Laursen’s Message
Dr. Tod Laursen, Chancellor of AUS, encouraged graduates to pursue positive change. He remarked, “As you graduate, I encourage you to keep evolving. Strive to be a powerful force for positive change in this world. Use your knowledge, skills, and heart to make a meaningful impact wherever you go. Always remain grounded in kindness, integrity, and compassion. Embody both professional excellence and a commitment to the betterment of society.”
