WhatsApp, Facebook face outages in UAE

WhatsApp

Many users in the UAE are currently experiencing outages on popular platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. Reports suggest users are struggling to send messages on WhatsApp and load posts on Facebook and Instagram.

Frustrated users took to other platforms, especially Twitter, to express their concerns. Memes about the outages quickly gained traction. Some users reported seeing error messages, including “something went wrong.” Meta, the parent company of these platforms, acknowledged the issue and assured users that they were working to resolve it quickly.

Meta released a statement through X addressing the disruptions. The company apologized for the inconvenience and promised a swift resolution to restore services.

By 10:10 pm on Wednesday, over 1,300 users reported Facebook and Instagram issues on Downdetector.ae. Meanwhile, more than 2,500 WhatsApp users in the UAE also flagged disruptions. These figures are approximate and rely on individual reports submitted to the website.

Globally, Downdetector.com noted over 12,000 users faced WhatsApp problems. During the outage, which started at 9:50 pm, there were 27,000 reports of Facebook issues and over 28,000 complaints about Instagram.

This isn’t the first instance of such disruptions for Meta’s platforms. Earlier this year, a global technical glitch impacted hundreds of thousands of users for over two hours. Similarly, in October, a brief outage temporarily disrupted services but was resolved within an hour.

The frequent outages have raised questions about the platforms’ reliability, especially for users who rely heavily on them for communication and business. Despite Meta’s swift responses, users have expressed frustration over recurring issues.

Businesses relying on these platforms for operations have also raised concerns about such disruptions’ financial impact. As digital connectivity becomes more vital, users are now urging Meta to invest in stronger infrastructure to prevent future outages. While Meta works to address these disruptions, users remain hopeful for uninterrupted services moving forward.
