Sharjah Calligraphy Forum attracts over 30,000 Visitors

The 11th Sharjah Calligraphy Forum, themed “Numerals,” concluded successfully, drawing over 30,000 global visitors in two months.

 

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Department of Sharjah’s Department of Culture. The event ran under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. Taking place from October 2 to November 30, the forum showcased Sharjah’s dedication to promoting Arabic calligraphy as a vital cultural art form.

 

Cultural and Artistic Diversity at Sharjah Forum

 

This year’s forum brought together 260 artists from various countries, displaying 600 artworks across 30 exhibitions and 94 activities. It also partnered with more than 30 institutions across Sharjah, further solidifying its global reputation as a hub for artistic exchange.

 

In addition, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of the Cultural Affairs Department, highlighted the forum’s alignment with His Highness’s vision to preserve Arabic calligraphy. “Arabic calligraphy continues to thrive, blending its historic roots with contemporary creativity, thanks to the enduring support of His Highness,” he remarked.

 

Activities of Sharjah Calligraphy Forum

 

The forum’s vibrant program included 57 seminars, visual presentations, and workshops that explored traditional and modern calligraphy techniques. For example, four specialized lectures on advancements in Arabic calligraphy, along with the international symposium “Arabic Calligraphy – Methods and Schools,” held at the House of Wisdom, drew significant participation.

 

One notable highlight was the “Reviving Scripts” exhibition. The event was featuring 67 original works by five artists committed to preserving ancient scripts. This exhibit underscored the forum’s dedication to both innovation and heritage.

 

Recognizing Excellence and Building Legacy

 

The event concluded by honoring several artists for their exceptional contributions, recognizing their pivotal role in preserving Arabic calligraphy.
