Global Media Congress: Media’s Role in Soft Power Explored

Global Media Conference

ABU DHABI (WAM)– The final day of the Global Media Congress featured a panel titled “Media as a Mechanism of Soft Power.” The discussion emphasized how media strengthens national narratives, builds reputations, and enhances global influence.

Global Media Congress: Shaping UAE’s Global Narrative

Dr. Jamal Mohammed Al Kaabi, Director-General of the National Media Office (NMO), highlighted its critical role in shaping the UAE’s media landscape. The NMO manages the nation’s reputation, acts as the UAE’s official voice, and communicates its vision to the world. Additionally, it focuses on developing talent, preserving the country’s leadership image, and representing the UAE internationally.

Dr. Al Kaabi noted the evolution of media. In ancient times, poetry documented history. Over time, traditional media shaped societies. Today, media is no longer a passive news transmitter but an active tool for influence and connection.

“We live in a time where individuals compete with institutions, requiring speed and accuracy in delivering information,” he stated. This shift, he explained, demands collaboration between individuals and organizations to share the UAE’s story globally.

Preparing for Future Media Transformations

The Congress’s efforts to attract media pioneers and creators underline the importance of sharing success stories. Moreover, nurturing talent is vital for navigating rapid media changes. Dr. Al Kaabi emphasized that the UAE’s advanced infrastructure, partnerships, and visionary leadership empower the sector. He urged media organizations to align content with UAE values while increasing global influence.

UAE Media Council at Global Media Conference

Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary General of the UAE Media Council, described the council’s role in regulating and enabling media. The council licenses outlets, content, and professionals, ensuring a strong ecosystem for investment and talent.

He highlighted that 60% of the global population uses social media, with over 5 billion creators shaping the digital landscape. These creators, he added, will drive future virtual media spaces.

UAE’s Achievements in Media Development

Al Shehhi noted the UAE’s media sector grew by 9.5%, surpassing global averages. Flexible regulations and investor confidence reflect the country’s commitment to excellence. This progress positions the UAE as a global media leader, ensuring continued growth and innovation.
