New details reveal that currently 5,292 Pakistani are jailed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to news reports, documents from the Pakistani Embassy outline the reasons for these incarcerations. Among them, 2,470 Pakistanis face imprisonment for drug-related crimes, while 1,771 are serving sentences for miscellaneous charges. Another 704 individuals are jailed for theft-related offenses.
The documents also highlight that 52 Pakistani are jailed for illegal entry, 171 for illegal residence, and 69 for robbery. Additionally, 147 Pakistanis are detained for murder, 36 for fraud, 32 for currency manipulation, 21 for kidnapping, and 53 for sexual harassment.
Reports had previously claimed that the UAE government shared a document linking these incarcerations to visa restrictions on Pakistani nationals. However, the Pakistani Embassy strongly denied these allegations, stating that no such document has been provided by the UAE authorities.
The Embassy emphasized that these claims are inaccurate and have no factual basis. It reiterated Pakistan’s strong diplomatic and economic ties with the UAE, describing the relationship as friendly and mutually beneficial. Both countries remain committed to resolving any concerns through official channels and constructive dialogue.
The Embassy assured that it is fully dedicated to safeguarding the rights and interests of Pakistani citizens in the UAE. It continues to work closely with UAE authorities to address any issues and strengthen the bilateral relationship.
While the situation regarding the visa ban remains unclear, the Embassy’s efforts aim to promote better understanding and collaboration between the two nations, ensuring the well-being of Pakistani nationals living and working in the UAE.
The embassy’s response follows reports suggesting the UAE imposed a visa ban on Pakistani citizens due to alleged misconduct. These reports claimed the UAE government provided documents highlighting reasons for the restrictions, including accusations against some Pakistani nationals. There can be another reason for ban that number of Pakistani are jailed.
Key allegations mentioned in the reports include:
Misuse of digital platforms: Protests, criticism of UAE government policies, and spreading negative content online.
Forgery concerns: Use of falsified identity documents, such as tampered ID cards and passports.
Criminal activities: Incidents of theft, fraud, drug-related offences, and begging allegedly involving Pakistani nationals.
