Former US President Donald Trump has claimed victory in the 2024 presidential election after winning a projected majority in the swing state of Pennsylvania. With over 51% of the popular vote and more than 265 electoral votes, Trump has secured a second term as the 47th President of the United States.
Fox News projected the crucial win in Pennsylvania, cementing his path to victory. Trump delivered his victory speech before a jubilant crowd in Florida, accompanied by his wife Melania, son Barron, running mate JD Vance, and other Republican figures. He vowed to prioritize the American people, declaring, “This will truly be the golden age of America.”
The 78-year-old president-elect thanked the American people for electing him, saying, “I will fight for you every single day, with every breath in my body.” Trump also expressed his pride in securing the popular vote, a victory he had not achieved in the 2016 or 2020 elections.
Trump reiterated his commitment to tackling illegal immigration and healing the nation, stating, “We have a country that needs help, and it needs help very badly.”
Meanwhile, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, who had planned to speak at Howard University after polls closed, canceled her address as the results rolled in. The Harris campaign vowed to continue the fight for every vote to be counted. As of now, Trump leads with 266 electoral votes to Harris’ 219, with seven electoral votes still pending.
