UK crime minister’s bag stolen during conference on theft and shoplifting

A government official on Friday said that while talking about the theft and shoplifting issues, the minister of police and crime in the UK had her bag stolen during a conference with senior and middle-ranking police officers.

It happened as Diana Johnson was at the Police Superintendents’ Association conference in central England on Sept 11 when a senior officer said in his speech that the criminal justice system is not properly working. The official reported that Johnson’s bag was stolen during the conference, but they found no security threat.

Johnson stated that the UK is currently experiencing a widespread issue of anti-social behavior, theft, and shoplifting.

The Home Office, also known as the Interior Ministry, refused to provide any comment.

Warwickshire Police announced that a 56-year-old man was arrested for suspected burglary in connection with the incident and was later released on bail.

In recent years, there has been a rise in thefts and shoplifting in the UK. Although there has been a decrease in overall crime, the theft of personal belongings like bags and phones from individuals increased by 40 percent in the year ending March, as reported by the Office for National Statistics.

During her speech, Johnson revealed intentions to provide additional training to police officers in order to address anti-social behavior following a period of decline over the last ten years.

She stated that numerous town centers and high streets all over the nation are facing a widespread issue of anti-social behavior, theft, and shoplifting, damaging our communities and must be stopped.
