Elon Musk, the richest person in the world and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, on Friday drew backlash for a remark he made about singer Taylor Swift.
This came after Swift endorsed Kamala Harris for president on social media. In her Instagram post Swift expressed her belief that the country could achieve more with calm leadership rather than chaos.
She made this statement following the debate between Harris and Donald Trump. Swift humorously concluded her post by referring to herself as the “Childless Cat Lady” alluding to comments made by Trump’s running mate JD Vance in 2022 who criticized Democratic leaders as “childless cat ladies.”
In response to Swifts endorsement Musk tweeted on X saying, “Fine Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.”
His seemingly joking comment quickly drew backlash with many accusing Musk of behavior. Notable figures such as Claudia Conway, daughter of Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway also commented on the remark calling it creepy.
Critics on social media have reacted to Elon Musk’s remark saying it’s unsettling. Some have pointed out Musk’s previous attempts to get Taylor Swift’s attention. Musk is recognized as having kids and has shown concerns about decreasing population in Western nations.
He went as far as making a joke on Twitter about his attempts to “recolonize” the Earth. His statement is made at a time when both he and Swift are receiving attention, with Swift gaining attention for her activism and Musk being busy with business ventures and personal issues.
